This split plant has two perfect flower stalks, one developing, and one odd one |
The two flowers shown on the left are the same plant, just the one above is a picture taken a couple of weeks ago. It looks as if bulbils will form on the flower stalk, because there is a papery husk still in between the flowers.
On the older flower, There are still a few small, tight lumps of onion that may form into bulbils or more flower stalks. It is also interesting how the flower timing is off on this plant. There are still dozens of unopened flowers.
The remaining pictures are all of the other plant grown from seed. This one actually split into two plants last year, and the one plant has two perfect looking onion flower stalks without any oddities. The only abnormal thing with this plant is the two flower stalks that formed on the larger stalk.
The flower oddities look exactly the same, with a bunch of unopened flowers on top and a large opened flower off to the side.
I really like this flower stalk. It looks almost like horns or antennae. Too bad the entire inflorescence is not made up of these things! With all of the flowers on these plants, I should get some seed to grow out and look for more unique plants.
